This is the first book I'd read by this author and I enjoyed it. The book focusses on one family and their life growing up in a large Edwardian house - Allersmead. The story flits between past and present and takes turns at focussing on the lives of each character, their childhood and where they are now. Occasionally it can get a bit confusing at the narrative jumps about, and the writing style takes some getting used to, but the characters are enough to make it worth sticking with.
