The Reader - Bernhard Schlink, Carol Brown Janeway I don't like comparing books and films, but I had seen the film of this first (and enjoyed it) which encouraged me to seek out the book, and so I was familiar with the story beforehand. I loved the story first time round and the book contains even more of the thought-provoking nature of the topics covered, and Michael's internal monologue is what really makes this book worth it. I don't want to say too much about the actual story because the revelations that happen throughout the book are best kept a surprise, but I think it's a really powerful book and one that I'd recommend.
