I really like this style of book, where a characters life is told over time and ties in with the events that happen in the world around them. This was a really beautiful example of this style, the narration was brilliant and captivating, the characters interesting and funny. I laughed along with them and held my breath with them. I was surprised to see an author's note at the back surrounding controversy, as I though certain aspects of this book which attracted it were done sensitively and in keeping with the story. I think noting certain major events made this book as touching as it was, as you remember where you were on those days and find yourself linked with the character, making it instantly relatable.
